December Book Haul 2013 (Christmas Excluded)

Hello again! So it is about time for me to do a December book haul. So because I buy so many books my husband and I have come to the agreement that we each get an 'allowance' every month that we can spend. In my case it is for books in his it is to a savings account to by a 'junk' car that he can fix up.

If you haven't guessed the reason I am doing the haul so early is because I have already spent my allowance for the month. I am excluding christmas from this and I will do a totally separate post for those.

In the month of December I bought six books.

First was A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. This is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, this is one of his comedies. It is about 4 teens Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena. Hermia and Lysander are in love but Demetrius is in love with Hermia too and has her fathers approval. Then there is Helen who is basically Demetrius's ex and is still in love with him. Hermia and Lysander run off into the forest to elope and is chased by Demetrius who is chased by Helena. Once all 4 are in the forest a fairy named Puck makes a mistake with a love potion and things get crazy from there.

Next is Teardrop by Lauren Kate. I had never heard of this book before when I saw it at Walmart. This book is about 17 year old Eureka who's mother is killed in a freak accident and after a boy named Ander appears everywhere she goes. Before long she discovers a story of a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. After this Ander's appearance and her mother's death seem connected. It sounds every interesting to me and I am so excited to read it.

After that I got World After by Susan Ee. I can't really tell you about this one because it is the sequel to Angelfall and if I tell you about this book it will spoil that.

The next book I got was Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. This book is about Cather who is starting her Freshman year of college. She, unlike her twin sister, is an introvert. And she is a huge fan of the Simon Snow books. Which is kind of like Harry Potter. This is the story of her coming into her own self and coming out of her shell.

After that I got Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. This is a horror book that follows a boy named Cas Lowood who hunts ghosts. She goes to hunt Anna who kills everyone who enters the house she hunts. That is all I know and it sounds so good.

And the last book that I got was Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King. This book is about Vera Dietz who has been in love with her best friend her entire life. She has kept all of his secrets and one day he betrays her and runes their friendship. So when he dies under dark circumstances she knows a lot more than even the police. However, she doesn't know if she wants to clear his name.  I am really excited to read this book and it might just be the first I read in 2014.

So those are all the books that I bought in December. I will do a seperate haul for any books that I get for Christmas (and I know I am getting a few from my husband). Thanks!

November Wrap-Up 2013

Hey there, So I know that this is a little late but that is okay! This is my November Wrap-up! I do not plan to do a TBR because I have a problem with picking out a list of books that I want to read because I really just look at my shelves and pick what ever I am in the mood for.

Now than here are the boos that I read in November.

Catching Fire and MockingJay by Suzanne Collins. The second and third books in The Hunger Games Trilogy. I have read these books before and they were just as great this time as around as they were the first time. 5 out of 5 stars on both.

The next book I read was Divergent by Veronica Roth. This is the first book in the Divergent Trilogy. It follows Tris, a citizen of chicago, who lives in a society were everyone is divided into factions who believe in very strict things (such and selflessness or intelligence or humility). Each person is supposed to fit into one of these factions but Tris doesn't, she is what they call Divergent. And this is dangerous to the way of life so she has to try and hide the fact that she is Divergent.

I read this book in 2 days. There is some action on every page and I did not want to put it down. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars as well.

After that I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This is a classic book that I just love SO much. 5 out of 5 stars.

The next book that I read I solely picked up because of the name and then I read the synopsis. That book is Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson. So instead of trying to explain this to you I am just going to paste in the synopsis,
  • "When Arlene Fleet heads up north for college, she makes three promises to God: She will stop fornicating with every boy who crosses her path; never tell another lie; and never, ever go back to the "fourth rack of hell," her hometown of Possett, Alabama. All she wants from Him is one little miracle: make sure the body is never found.
Crackling with humor, defiantly endearing characters, and plot twists that will astonish even the most jaded reader, gods in Alabama will send you careening from tears to laughter and back. Most of all, it brings a unique, rough-around-the-edges heroine to life and makes her a permanent part of your own."

O.o That sounded interesting to me so i read it and it really was a great book with an ending that I never saw coming. This is an Adult book so there is some adult themes in there to be aware of. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

The next book I read in November was Losing It by Cora Carmack. I am sure you can guess by the title and the cover what this book is about but I am going to tell you anyway. This is a book in a 'new' genre called New Adult. The reason I say 'new' is because it is a genre that has been around it just never had a title. In it's most basic form it is about college age characters and there is sex... That is it.

Now for this story it is about Bliss and she is in her last semester of grad school and decides that she is sick of being a virgin and she wants to lose it (Duh). So she goes to a bar and meets this guy who she takes home but in a nervous fit runs away and hides in front of her house until he leaves. She thinks nothing of it until the next day.... when that guy is standing in front of her class... as her new professor.

Things get interesting from there needless to say and I really loved this story. It was really cute and simple to read. 4 out of 5 stars.

So now for the last book that I read in the month of November was The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. This book is about Logan who finds a picture while he is on active duty in the marines. He tries to find the owner but when he cant he keeps it. Before long he begins to think that is a good luck charm because he survives things he shouldn't. When he finally gets back to the states he sets out to find the girl in the picture and thank her. When he finally finds her he is scared of how she will react and takes a job at the dog kennel that she runs.

This book is very great and I loved everything about it. 5 out of 5 stars.

November was a great reading month for me as you can tell by all the high ratings. Well that is it. If you want any longer reviews of these books let me know by leaving a comment. Thanks!
